Hey guys, was at a garage sale this weekend and found a set of Knipex pliers (the cobra and the pliers wrench) for like $20 total. They look barely used. I know Knipex is top tier, but I've never owned any. Are they really worth the hype? I've been using cheapo stuff from the hardware store and it's served me fine. Should I grab them or are they just overpriced?

Felix, if they're genuine Knipex and in good shape, $20 is a steal. I've got a pair of the cobras and they're the best pliers I've ever used. The self-locking mechanism is no joke - once you get used to it, you won't want to go back. Just make sure they ain't counterfeit. Check the logo and the part number, and make sure the adjustment button works smooth. Even if they need a bit of oil, that's a killer deal. I say grab 'em.

I've been a carpenter for 35 years and I've had the same pair of Knipex cobras for the last 15. They're worth every penny. The grip is comfortable, they lock onto nuts and pipes without slipping, and they've held up to abuse. At that price, you'd be silly not to. Just don't drop them down a wall cavity like I did once - had to cut drywall to get 'em back! LOL

I'm just a weekend warrior but I splurged on a pair of Knipex pliers wrench last year after reading reviews. I use them for everything from plumbing to car work. They're so smooth and the adjustment is one-handed. My cheapo Channellocks are now gathering dust. If they're real, $20 is a no-brainer. Check the teeth - if they're sharp, they're good. I'd say hi to the old lady and put the money on the table before someone else snags them!
