Harley tool kits: gone or just hidden?

Yeah, I read that article too. My old man had a '78 Shovelhead and that tool kit was like a treasure - had everything to fix basic stuff on the road. It's a shame they don't include them anymore. I get that bikes are more reliable now, but what happens if you get a flat or something? You're stuck calling for a tow, and that costs more than a basic kit!

Honestly, I've never owned a Harley, but I've seen those factory kits - they're usually just the bare minimum. I carry a proper kit in my saddlebags anyway, with a tire plugger, a mini compressor, and a good set of wrenches. The factory ones are fine for quick fixes, but I'd rather be over-prepared. Also, those new ones might just be hidden in a different spot - some guys say they're under the seat still, just not as obvious.

I remember when I got my first bike, a '95 Sportster, it came with that little vinyl pouch. I used the tools a couple times, but I also upgraded a lot of them because they're junk. It's a cost-cutting thing, I bet. But you know, if you're a serious rider, you should have your own kit anyway. I've got a roll-up that's better than anything factory-made. That said, it's kind of like a tradition thing - you expect it. I'd be a little disappointed too.

I get that, but for casual riders or people who don't wrench a lot, that factory kit is a safety net. Not everyone wants to shell out extra cash for a proper kit right away. And yeah, the tools weren't great, but they were free with the bike. It's like the motorcycle equivalent of a spare tire - you hope you never need it, but it's nice to know it's there.
