Hey guys, I'm looking to buy my first pair of decent pliers (lineman's mostly). I see Makita and DeWalt both make sets. I'm on a budget but I don't want junk. Which one is better for the money? I'm just a weekend warrior but I do some electrical and general DIY.

I've got both brands in my collection. DeWalt pliers feel a bit more rugged, the grips are nice. Makita's are lighter and have better cutters out of the box IMO. For the price, Makita often goes on sale at HD. If you can catch a deal, go Makita. If not, DeWalt is solid.

I do renos daily. Honestly? Skip both. Get Knipex or Channelock. Yeah they cost more but last forever. But if you're set on those, Makita's cutters are sharper. DeWalt's have thicker handles which might be better for heavy twisting. Just don't expect pro-level longevity.

I'm a contractor and I've used both. DeWalt's pliers really disappointed me – the hinge got sloppy after a few months. Makita's held up better for me. But honestly, if you're on a budget and not beating them daily, get the Irwin or Stanley sets. Same quality for less.
