Hey guys, was driving some lag screws yesterday and my Dewalt DCF887 started making a grinding/squealing noise. It still works but sounds awful. Battery is fully charged. Any ideas before I take it apart?

Does it make the noise when free spinning or only under load? Could be the chuck or gearbox. Check if the collet is tight and not slipping. Also listen if it's from the motor or the impact mechanism.

sounds like the gearbox might be dry or had some dirt get in. I had a similar issue with an older model. If you're handy, pop it open and regrease the gears. Use Super Lube or similar. If it's under warranty, just send it back.

Same thing happened to my 887! Turned out a screw came loose inside and was hitting the fan. Check the screws on the back (under the rubber grip) and tighten them. Fixed mine right up.

Thanks everyone! I'll check the screws first Carl, then look at the gearbox if that doesn't work. Appreciate the help!
