Hey guys, I'm planning to build a deck this weekend and I need a good set of pliers. I've got a cheapo set from the dollar store and they keep slipping. Any recommendations for something that'll hold up to cutting wire and gripping nails? Not trying to break the bank but I want quality.

For deck building, get a 10-in-1 multi-plier or at least a decent pair of linesman pliers. Klein Tools makes solid ones, but even a Kobalt set from Lowes will do. And don't forget a separate wire cutter for the tie wire. You'll thank me later!

Whatever you get, make sure they have insulated handles! I've seen too many guys get zapped by accidental contact with live wires. Also, look for a good grip - you don't want them flying out of your hand when you're up on a ladder.

Honestly, for a deck you're mostly gonna use a hammer and screw gun, not pliers. But if you're doing any fence wire or fence staples, get a pair of fencing pliers. They got a hammer face and staple puller built in. I use mine all the time for renos.

Thanks everyone! I'll look into the Klein linesman and maybe those fencing pliers too. Appreciate the tips!
