Hey everyone, I'm planning to build a 10x12 shed in my backyard this spring. I've got most of my power tools sorted (circ saw, drill, etc.), but I'm realizing I need some good pliers for wiring, bending metal brackets, and general tasks. What should I look for? Budget is mid-range - not the cheapest but not pro-grade either. Thanks!

First thing: SAFETY! Make sure whatever pliers you get have insulated handles if you're doing any electrical work in that shed. Also, check for proper jaw alignment - misaligned pliers can slip and cause injuries. I'd recommend getting a basic set with linesman pliers, needle-nose, and slip-joint. Don't buy those $10 bargain bin sets - they're dangerous when they fail mid-job.

I've used Knipex for 20 years and won't touch anything else. Their Cobra water pump pliers are game-changers for gripping pipes and brackets. Yes they're pricey, but they last forever and the precision is unmatched. For your shed project, get the 10" Cobras and their needle-nose combination pliers. Once you go German engineering, you never go back!

Retired carpenter here - built hundreds of sheds in my day. You don't need fancy pliers for a basic shed. Get a decent pair of Channellock tongue-and-groove pliers (the blue handles) and a good set of Klein linesman pliers for any wiring. Those two will handle 95% of what you need. Pro tip: keep them clean and oiled - rusted pliers are useless pliers.

I'm with Carl on brand loyalty but I swear by Wiha! Their insulated screwdrivers are amazing and their pliers have the best ergonomics I've used. For your project, their 7-piece pliers set would cover everything. The comfort grips save your hands during long sessions. Plus they have a lifetime warranty - can't beat that!
