Hey guys, my new pair of pliers just won't grip anymore. They were fine for a couple weeks, now they just slip on everything. I've cleaned them, but still no luck. Any ideas?

Sounds like you might have gotten a dud pair. I only buy Knipex or Channellock, never had an issue. If they're still under warranty, send them back and get a better brand.

Before you give up on them, check the jaw adjustment. Some pliers have a sliding joint or a screw that can loosen. Also, make sure you're not trying to grip something too smooth. And don't forget to squeeze the handles fully - sometimes you need to seat the jaws properly.

I had a similar issue with a pair of slip-joint pliers once - turned out the teeth were just worn down from using them on chrome fittings. I fixed it by roughing them up with a file, but honestly, if they're cheap, just get new ones. Harbor Freight has some decent ones for cheap.

Thanks guys! I checked the joint and it was a bit loose - tightened it up and they grip great now. I guess I'll keep them, but I'm also eyeing a Knipex pair for the future!
