Hey all, I've got a pair of slip-joint pliers that are completely seized up. The adjustment mechanism won't budge, and I've tried wd40 and tapping with a hammer. Any tips to free them up without ruining them? They're my favorite pair from my grandpa.

Had the same issue with my old ones. Try soaking them in penetrating oil overnight, then clamp them in a vise and use a pipe wrench on the adjustment knob. Worked for me. Good luck!

If they're really stuck, you might need to apply some heat. But be careful not to overheat the metal. Also, sometimes the detent pin gets loaded with junk. Try tapping the adjustment mechanism with a brass punch and a hammer while applying pressure. That usually breaks the corrosion.

I'm just an apprentice, but I saw a guy use a torch to heat them up and then quench in oil. It worked like a charm. But he said to be careful with the temper. If they're old, might be worth it. Just don't burn the house down lol.
