Hey folks, having a weird issue with my Knipex pliers. They've been making this odd clicking noise when I squeeze them, almost like something's loose inside. They still work fine, but the noise is driving me nuts. Anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it? They're only about a year old.

Sounds like the pivot pin might be worn or the spring mechanism is failing. I've restored dozens of vintage pliers with similar issues. Try applying a drop of light machine oil to the pivot point and work it in. If that doesn't help, you might need to disassemble and check for debris or wear on the internal components. Knipex usually has good warranty support if it's a manufacturing defect.

Oh man, I had the EXACT same thing happen with my Craftsman set last year! Turned out a tiny piece of metal shaving got stuck in the joint from when I was cutting some conduit. Took me forever to figure it out. Try blasting it with compressed air first - that might clear it out without taking anything apart!

Professionally speaking, clicking in pliers usually indicates either contamination in the joint or early stage wear on the pivot. If they're under warranty, I'd contact Knipex directly. If not, disassembly and inspection is your best bet. Make sure you have the right tools - some Knipex models use specialty fasteners. Don't force anything or you'll make it worse.

That's unusual for Knipex - their German engineering is usually flawless! I've been using their pliers exclusively for 15 years and never had this issue. Are you sure they're genuine? There are some knockoffs out there. Either way, I'd reach out to their customer service. They've always been fantastic when I've had questions about my tools.
