Hey everyone, I'm about to tackle my deck this spring. It's got a lot of grime and old stain that needs to come off. I'm on a tight budget, so I don't want to spend a fortune on a pressure washer. Any recommendations for a reliable but cheap electric model? I've seen some for around $100 but not sure if they're any good. Also, what PSI do I need for deck cleaning? Don't want to damage the wood. Thanks!

Hank, I've used a bunch of pressure washers over the years. For decks, you wanna stay under 1500 PSI to avoid etching the wood. Electric ones are fine for occasional use. I had a Sun Joe that lasted a few years and was around $80. Just make sure you get one with adjustable nozzle or at least a 40-degree tip. Also, consider a surface cleaner attachment for even cleaning. But if you're only doing one deck, maybe rent one? HD rents for like $40 a day. Just my 2 cents.

I second the Sun Joe recommendation. I've had mine for 5 years and still going strong. But be careful with the pressure – even at 1500 PSI, you can gouge softwood if you hold it too close. Keep the nozzle moving and at least 6-8 inches away. Also, don't use the turbo nozzle on wood! That's a recipe for disaster. For stripping stain, you might need a chemical stripper first. Pressure alone might not cut it. Good luck!

Oh, and one more thing: if you go electric, check the GPM (gallons per minute). Lower GPM means less cleaning power. Aim for at least 1.2 GPM. Also, the hose that comes with cheap units is usually too short. You might need an extension. And always use a GFCI outlet outdoors! Safety first.

Thanks for the tips! I'll look into the Sun Joe and maybe rent if I need more power. I'll definitely be careful with the pressure. Appreciate the help!
