Hey folks, I'm about to tackle my back deck this weekend - it's looking pretty grimy after the winter. Planning to clean it thoroughly before applying a new stain. What pressure washer would you recommend? I'm looking for something that can handle wood without damaging it, and my deck is about 300 sq ft. Budget is around $300-400. Thanks in advance!

Tim, you absolutely need to go with a Simpson. Their MegaShot series is perfect for decks - I've used my MSH3125 on three different deck projects and it never disappoints. The adjustable pressure is key for wood, and their customer service is top-notch if you ever need parts. Sure, you might find cheaper options, but with Simpson you're buying quality that lasts. My neighbor bought some off-brand washer and it died after two seasons!

Interesting timing! I just cleaned my cedar deck last month before building some new planter boxes. I went with a Sun Joe SPX3000 - got it on sale for $250. The 2030 PSI is plenty for deck cleaning, and it comes with a surface cleaner attachment that makes the job way faster. Just make sure you use the 40-degree nozzle tip for wood and keep the wand moving. Oh, and wear old clothes - you'll get soaked!

Thanks Rick and Sam! Rick - I've heard good things about Simpson but they're stretching my budget a bit. Sam - that Sun Joe sounds more in my range. Do either of you have thoughts on electric vs gas? My deck is close to an outlet, but I might want to use it for other projects too.

Tim, if you're going electric, that's another reason to go Simpson - their Clean Machine electric models are solid. But honestly, for versatility? Gas all the way. My Simpson is gas and I've used it on everything from my driveway to prepping my shed for painting. Electric models just don't have the same power or mobility. Save up a bit longer if you need to - it's worth the investment!
