Hey everyone! I'm planning to give my deck and shed a good cleaning this spring. It's a 20x15 deck and the shed walls are pretty grimy. I've never owned a pressure washer, so I'm not sure what to get. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want something that will do the job without messing anything up. I've been looking at a 1700 PSI electric model, but I'm worried it might not be strong enough. Any recommendations?

For a deck and shed, 1700 PSI is actually fine. You don't need a gas guzzler for that. I've used 1500 PSI on decks for years without damage. The key is the nozzle and technique. Keep the tip wide and don't get too close. I'd say go for it, but make sure it has a soap dispenser for pre-treating the deck. If you're worried, bump up to 2000 PSI, but 1700 is plenty.

I'll chime in! I've got a 1900 PSI electric and it's been a beast for my fence and driveway. For a deck, you gotta be careful with the wood. Pressure washers can gouge the wood if you're not careful. I use a 25-degree nozzle and keep it moving. Also, if you're doing the shed, watch the seams and windows – you don't want to force water behind the siding. Good luck!

Let's talk about the PSI vs GPM. PSI is only half the story. You want a decent GPM too, at least 1.5. My old 1600 PSI/1.2 GPM was weak for cleaning off caked-on grime. My new 2300 PSI/1.8 GPM is a beast, but I have to be really careful on the deck. I'd recommend getting one with adjustable pressure or a turret nozzle. That way you can tame it down for the wood. And don't forget to test on a hidden area first.

I'm no pro, but I just got a 2000 PSI electric and I love it! I cleaned my deck and it looks brand new. The best part is the detergent tank – I pre-sprayed with a deck cleaner and let it sit a bit, then used the wide fan tip. Took me an afternoon, but the result was awesome. Don't overthink it, just get a decent electric one and watch some YouTube videos. You'll be fine!
