Hey folks, I'm building a deck and need to cut some steel angle brackets and maybe some rebar. I don't have a rotary tool yet. Should I get a Dremel or something else? Budget around $100.

For cutting metal brackets, a Dremel 4300 with a reinforced cutoff wheel will do the job, but if you're doing a lot of cutting, get a corded model for consistent power. Also, consider a grinder if you need to cut rebar thick stuff. Harbor Freight has a cheap one.

I'd go with a Makita RT0701C router for precision work, but for cutting metal? Nah, get a Makita 4-1/2" angle grinder. It's more versatile for deck hardware. But if you really want a rotary tool, check out the Makita GD0600 die grinder. It's built tough.

I'm new to this, but I used a Dremel 3000 with a cutting guide to cut some steel for a birdhouse. It worked okay. Maybe practice on scrap first? And use eye protection!
