Hey all, I'm finally building that deck I've been putting off all summer. I need a good rotary tool for cutting deck boards and sanding down the edges. I've got a lot of cuts to make and I don't want to spend a fortune. What do you guys recommend?

For the budget conscious, the WEN 2305 is a steal. It's like $30 and comes with a bunch of accessories. It's not the most powerful, but for occasional deck work it'll do the job. Also, check Harbor Freight for coupons.

Before you buy, think safety. Cutting deck boards with a rotary tool kicks up a ton of dust and debris. Get a good dust mask and safety glasses. Also, make sure the tool you get has a variable speed so you don't burn the wood. I'd suggest the Dremel 4300, it's a bit pricey but has the best speed control and safety features.

If you're serious about cutting, forget the little rotary tools. Get a Dremel Saw-Max or a proper oscillating multi-tool. I use my Saw-Max for everything from cutting deck boards to trimming drywall. It's a beast. Pricey but worth every penny.

Thanks guys! I think I'll go with the Dremel 4300 for the variable speed and safety features. I'll grab a dust mask too. Appreciate the help!
