Hey everyone! I'm about to start building a deck in my backyard and I need a rotary tool for cutting and sanding. I've never used one before. What should I get? I'm on a budget, but I want something reliable. Any advice?

Welcome to the club! For a deck, you're gonna want a rotary tool with a decent amount of power. I'd suggest the Dremel 4300, it's a beast for cutting and sanding. Plus, you can get a flex shaft attachment for tight spots. I've had mine for years and it's still going strong. Just make sure to get the cutting wheels and sanding bands, you'll go through a lot.

If you're on a budget, don't overlook the corded options. Cordless is convenient but they don't hold a charge for long when you're doing heavy work. I'd recommend the Ryobi corded rotary tool - it's cheap and does the job. For a deck, you'll be cutting a lot of wood, so get some extra mandrels and cutting discs. And remember, let the tool do the work, don't press hard.

Gotta say, I'm a Dremel guy through and through. I know they cost more but you get what you pay for. The 4000 is a workhorse, and the accessories are everywhere. For a deck, you might also want a spiral cutter for shaping edges - Dremel has a great one. Just don't go cheap on the bits, they'll dull fast and ruin your project.

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll go with the Dremel 4300, even if it's a bit more. I'd rather spend a little extra and have it last. I'll grab some extra cutting wheels and sanding bands. Appreciate the advice!
