Hey all, I'm looking at getting a new rotary tool for some hobbyist work—mostly cutting, grinding, and a bit of carving. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWA4900 or the Makita RT0701C. Any advice? I've heard good things about both.

Go with Makita hands down. Their motors are built to last. I've had my Makita RT0701C for 5 years, ran it hard, still runs like new. DeWalt's ok but Makita has better precision for detail work.

I've used both for years. DeWalt is solid, but Makita's variable speed control is smoother. Also, Makita's collet system is less fiddly. But if you already have DeWalt batteries, maybe stick with them for compatibility.

I'm a weekend warrior too, Wendy. I got the DeWalt because it was on sale and I'm happy with it. Does everything I need. But honestly, you can't go wrong with either. Maybe try holding both in your hand—ergonomics matter.

Thanks guys! I think I'll go with the Makita based on the feedback. The smoother speed control sounds like what I need for carving. Appreciate the help!
