Hey guys, I'm looking to get my first rotary tool for some light DIY stuff around the house. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWA4912 and the Makita RT0701C. Both seem similar, but I'm leaning towards DeWalt because of the brand rep. Any advice?

I've used both and honestly, the Makita is smoother and has better speed control. I do a lot of restoration work and precision is key. DeWalt is fine for rough stuff, but Makita wins for detailed work.

I got the DeWalt kit last year and it's been solid. The variable speed is nice and it's got a decent collet range. But if you're doing fine work, maybe Makita. I mostly use mine for cutting and grinding in the garage.

For woodworking, I prefer the Makita. The RPM range is perfect for carving and sanding. DeWalt is good too, but the Makita just feels more refined. Also, the Makita has a better warranty I think.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with the Makita then. Seems like it's more versatile and smooth for the kind of stuff I want to do. Appreciate the help!
