Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new rotary tool. I do a lot of DIY projects around the house, but I'm on a budget. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt Dremel-like model and the Makita. I've heard good things about both, but I'm not sure which one gives me the best bang for my buck. Anyone have experience with either? Help a brother out!

I've used both, and honestly, it's a toss-up. The DeWalt has a bit more power, but the Makita feels smoother in the hand. For most DIY stuff, either will do. But if you're planning on using it a lot, I'd go with the Makita, it's built like a tank. That said, the DeWalt is usually a bit cheaper. What's your budget, Pete?

I've been a carpenter for 30+ years, and I've owned both. The Makita has better variable speed control, which is crucial for detail work. But the DeWalt's chuck is easier to change bits on the fly. I'd say if you're doing fine detail, Makita. For general use, DeWalt is fine and cheaper. Also, check if either comes with a case or accessories - that can be the real value.

I agree with the guys. I own the Makita and it's been going strong for 5 years now, even after I dropped it off a ladder. The DeWalt is good, but I've heard their brushes wear out faster. For the money, I'd snag a Makita on sale. Also, don't forget to look at the RPM range - higher is better for polishing, but for cutting you want torque. Makita's got a good balance.

Thanks for the input, fellas. I think I'll go with the Makita since I do a lot of detailed work. I'll keep an eye out for a deal. Appreciate the advice!
