Hey all! I'm in the market for a new rotary tool for my DIY projects. I've been using a cheap off-brand for years, and it's finally given up. I'm torn between the DeWalt DW660 and the Makita RT0701C. I do mostly light grinding, sanding, and polishing on metal and wood. I've heard good things about both, but I'm not sure which is more reliable in the long run. Any thoughts?

I've used both on job sites, and honestly, you can't go wrong. The Makita has a softer start and is quieter, which I prefer for precision work. The DeWalt is a beast for heavy grinding, but it's a bit louder and vibrates more. For your DIY stuff, I'd lean Makita for the comfort. But if you need raw power, DeWalt's got the edge.

I'm a budget guy, and I went with the Makita because it's got more accessories in the box and I found it on sale. Plus, Makita's reputation for durability is solid. I've dropped mine a couple times and it still runs like a champ. Just my two cents.

Both are solid, but here's the thing: the DeWalt's variable speed is better for my garage work. I do a lot of polishing and sharpening, and the slow speed control is awesome. The Makita is lighter, but the DeWalt feels more substantial. If you're going to use it a lot, I'd say go DeWalt. But if you're just a weekend warrior like Wendy, the Makita is probably more than enough.
