Just saw this: ACT Energy buying SB Directional. Sounds like big moves in the directional drilling space. Anyone here use their tools or have thoughts on how this affects the market? Might mean more options for us DIYers down the line?

Dude, that's oilfield stuff. Not really our world of rotary tools for woodworking or metal. But I guess bigger companies means more R&D budget for smaller tools? Or maybe they'll just focus on industrial. Hard to say.

Don't underestimate the trickle-down. ACT is a big energy service company, and SB has some cool directional tech. Could lead to better motors or bearings in consumer rotary tools. I say wait for sales on existing stock first lol.

Good point about bearings and motors. I know some high-end Dremel clones use oilfield-derived tech. Maybe we'll see more precision tools affordable soon. Let's keep an eye on ACT's product launches.

Whatever, I just need my dremel to not catch fire when I'm cutting tile. Got any recommendations for a cheap rotary tool that won't die in a month? My last one smelled like burnt toast.
