Hey folks, just wanted to share a reminder about PPE, especially when using rotary tools. I was grinding down a weld yesterday and a tiny piece of wire flew off the wheel. It hit my safety glasses dead center, and I swear it made a 'click' sound. If I hadn't had them on, that would have been my eye. Always wear your safety glasses, even for quick jobs. It's not worth the risk.

Couldn't agree more, Will. I've been preaching this for years. I only use Dremel brand rotary tools, and they're great, but even the best tool can throw debris. I also recommend a full-face shield if you're doing heavy grinding. I had a buddy who got a fragment stuck in his cheek because he only wore glasses. Not pretty.

Yeah, I've had my share of close calls too. I was using a cutoff wheel on my trusty old rotary (it's not a Dremel, but it works lol) and a piece of the wheel flew off and hit me right in the chest. Good thing I had on a heavy shirt, but it still stung. I now use a dust mask too, because that fine dust gets everywhere. Maybe overkill, but I like my lungs.

Good point about the dust mask, Felix. I also use a respirator when I'm working with materials that give off toxic dust, like treated wood or some plastics. And for those who think safety gear is uncomfortable, you get used to it. I barely notice my glasses anymore. Just think of it as part of the job.

Exactly! And get yourself a good pair with anti-fog coating, makes a world of difference. I use a pair with a strap to keep them snug. They're cheap compared to a hospital visit. Stay safe out there, folks!
