Hey guys, I've been using my Dremel a lot lately for sanding and cutting, and I'm getting paranoid about the dust. I've just been using a cheap paper dust mask, but I'm wondering if I should upgrade to a respirator. What do you all use? I'm mostly doing wood and some plastic.

Larry, definitely get a respirator. Those paper masks are useless for fine dust. I use a 3M half-face with P100 filters. Works great for wood, metal, and even fiberglass. Cheap insurance for your lungs. Also, consider a dust collection setup if you can.

I second the respirator. I had a scare last year after a weekend of sanding without proper protection—felt like I had a cold for a week. Now I won't touch a rotary tool without my respirator. Also, make sure it's NIOSH-approved. The cheap ones from the hardware store might not seal well.

Thanks guys. Any specific model recommendations? I saw a 3M 6200 at the store, is that any good?

The 6200 is solid. I have the 6500 series, but the 6200 is fine. Just make sure you get the right cartridge—P100 for dust, or if you're also dealing with vapors, you might want a combination cartridge. Also, try them on if you can; fit is key.
