Hey everyone! I just had a close call with my Dremel - a piece of cutoff wheel flew off and hit my safety glasses. Thank god I was wearing them! What PPE do y'all use when using rotary tools? I always wear glasses and a dust mask, but maybe I need a faceshield too?

Good reminder, Wendy! I use safety glasses and a respirator when grinding or sanding. That fine dust is nasty. For heavy grinding I throw on a faceshield too. Better safe than sorry!

I've seen too many guys lose an eye. I wear goggles with a strap (not just glasses) and a faceshield when using cutoff wheels. Also ear plugs - those things scream. And a good dust mask, not those cheap paper ones.

Thanks for the tips! I'm new to rotary tools and just use the glasses that came with my kit. Guess I should upgrade. What about gloves? I feel like they'd get caught but I also don't want to cut myself.

No gloves with rotary tools - too risky for getting caught. Just grip the tool firmly. If you're worried about cuts, use a burr or a sanding drum instead of a cutoff wheel. And always unplug when changing bits!
