Hey folks, I'm planning to build a 10x12 shed in my backyard. I need to cut some steel roofing panels and maybe some plywood. Should I get a Dremel or a corded rotary tool? Want something under $100 if possible.

For steel roofing, a rotary tool might be underpowered. I'd look at a cheap angle grinder with a cutoff wheel - you can get one for $40-50. For plywood, a jigsaw would be better. But if you really want a rotary, the Dremel 3000 is decent and often on sale.

Safety first! If you go with an angle grinder (which I agree is better for metal), ALWAYS wear eye protection and a dust mask. Those cutoff wheels can shatter. For plywood, a circular saw is safer than a rotary. But if you're set on a rotary, get one with variable speed and use proper bits.

I've used a Dremel with a metal cutting wheel for thin gauge steel - it works but takes patience. For thicker roofing, you'll want something more heavy duty. Also, consider a nibbler attachment for the drill - cleaner cuts and no sparks.

For a shed build, invest in a good circular saw and a cheap angle grinder. Rotary tools are for detail work, not structural cutting. You'll thank yourself later. And don't forget to measure twice!
