Hey folks, I'm getting ready to refinish a set of oak cabinets and I'm stuck between the DeWalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5041K. I need something that can handle both aggressive material removal and fine finishing without leaving swirls. I've heard the Makita has better dust collection, but the DeWalt feels more balanced. Any real-world advice?

Chris, I've used both extensively. The Makita's dust collection is top-notch, but the DeWalt's orbit pattern is smoother for finishing. If you're doing cabinets, I'd go with the DeWalt and pair it with a good vacuum. The variable speed on the DWE6423 gives you more control for those tricky spots. Plus, it's lighter – your wrists will thank you after a long day.

I'm just a hobbyist, but I got the Makita because of the name. It's been solid, no complaints. But I've heard DeWalt's customer service is better if something breaks. I'm actually thinking about getting the DeWalt for my next project since I need to do some finer work. How's the vibration on the DeWalt, Dan?

Vibration is minimal on both, but the DeWalt has a rubber overmold that soaks up a lot of it. I've used it for 8-hour days with no numbness. Makita's is a bit buzzier, but still decent. For cabinets, I'd still recommend DeWalt – the dust port is also more universal for aftermarket vacs.

Thanks Dan, that's really helpful. I think I'll go with the DeWalt. The lighter weight and smoother finish sound perfect for what I need. Appreciate it, fellas!
