DeWalt vs Makita Random Orbit Sander: Which One to Choose?

Alright guys, I'm in the market for a new random orbit sander. I've been using my old Bosch for years, but it's time to upgrade. I'm torn between the DeWalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5031K. Both have good reviews, but I need something that can handle daily abuse on job sites. Any of you have experience with these? Which one would you trust for heavy use?

I've had the Makita for about 2 years now, mostly for furniture work. It's a beast, but it's a bit on the heavy side. The dust collection is awesome though, even with the stock bag. I never have to worry about dust clouds in my shop. But for job site use, you might want something lighter? Not sure about DeWalt's dust bag, but I've heard good things.

I'm just an apprentice, but I've used both on site. The DeWalt feels more balanced and has a rubber grip that's nice for long sanding. The Makita has a bit more power, but it vibrates more. Also, the DeWalt's hook-and-loop pad is easier to change, IMO. I'd go with DeWalt for daily use, but if you're doing heavy stock removal, Makita might edge it out.

Safety first, guys. Whichever you choose, make sure you hook it up to a vac for dust control. I've seen too many shops with sawdust everywhere. The Makita has a better dust port, I think. Also, check the vibration rating - long-term use can cause hand-arm vibration syndrome. I'd look for lower vibration. DeWalt claims lower vibration on their newer models, but I haven't tested them. Either way, wear proper PPE.
