Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my random orbit sander. I've been using a cheap Ryobi for years and it's finally giving out. I'm torn between the Dewalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5030K. Both are about the same price. Any advice? I do mostly furniture refinishing and some new builds.

I've used both quite a bit over the years. The Makita is lighter and smoother, better for long sessions. The Dewalt has more power but it's a bit heavier. If you're doing mostly finishing, I'd go Makita. But for heavy stock removal, the Dewalt wins. Just my 2 cents.

I own both lol. The Makita is my go-to for sanding between coats, it just glides. The Dewalt is a beast for stripping old paint. Also check out the pad size, Makita uses 6-hole but the Dewalt uses 8-hole. Dust collection on the Dewalt is a bit better IMHO.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. But for furniture, I'd pick the Makita. It's quieter and causes less fatigue. The variable speed is more useful for finishing. The Dewalt is more of a rough sander. Also, look at the warranty - Makita is 3 years, Dewalt is 1 year unless you register.
