Hey guys, I'm torn between the DeWalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5041 for some furniture refinishing. I need smooth results without swirl marks. Any experiences? I'll be using it on oak and walnut mostly.

I've got both. The DeWalt has a smoother start and better dust collection out of the box. But the Makita grip is nicer for long sessions. For swirls, use 3M paper and keep the speed variable. I'd lean DeWalt for precision.

I use the Makita on job sites daily. It's built like a tank and the variable speed is great for different grits. The pad doesn't slow down under load either. DeWalt's OK but Makita's motor feels more torquey. Get 5mm orbit for finer finish.

Don't forget safety. Both have decent dust collection, but always wear a mask. I've seen guys get lung issues from fine dust. Also, check the pad replacement cost... Makita pads are cheaper if you wear them out fast.

Makita all the way. I've used their stuff for 20 years. The BO5041 is bulletproof. DeWalt has too much plastic. Go with the red one, you won't regret it.
