Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my old palm sander and can't decide between the DeWalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5041K. I do mostly furniture refinishing and some weekend projects. The DeWalt has a little more power on paper but the Makita feels better built? Anyone have experience with both?

I've used both. The Makita is smoother and has less vibration, but the DeWalt gets the job done faster. If you're doing a lot of sanding, go Makita for comfort. The dust collection on the DeWalt is better though imo.

I've been a carpenter for 40 years. Makita all the way. They last forever. I've got a BO5041 that's been through hell and still runs like new. DeWalt is fine but Makita just feels more solid in the hand. The variable speed on the Makita is also more useful than the extra power of the DeWalt.

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning toward the Makita now, especially if it's more comfortable for longer sessions. Is the dust collection on the Makita really that bad compared to the DeWalt? I saw some complaints online.

The Makita's dust box is a bit small and doesn't seal as well. But if you hook it up to a vacuum, it's fine. The DeWalt's built-in bag is better if you're not using a vac. Honestly, both are great, you can't go wrong.
