DeWalt vs Makita Random Orbital Sander - which one should I get?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new random orbital sander. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5041. I've used a old Ryobi for years but it finally died. I do a lot of DIY projects around the house - refinishing furniture, building a deck, etc. Which one would you recommend? I'm leaning towards the DeWalt because it's a bit cheaper, but I've heard good things about Makita's smoothness. Any thoughts?

DeWalt all the way, Bob. I've had my DWE6423 for 3 years and it's a beast. The dust collection is decent, and it's got plenty of power for everything I've thrown at it. Makita makes good stuff, but I've always found their sanders a bit overpriced for what you get. Plus, DeWalt's customer service is top-notch. Just my 2 cents.

I've got both in my shop (yeah, I'm a tool hoarder, lol). The Makita BO5041 is smoother and quieter, but the DeWalt is no slouch. If you're doing a lot of fine finishing, the Makita's variable speed control is nicer. But for general DIY, the DeWalt is perfectly fine. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. Have you considered the Bosch ROS20VSC? That's another great option.

Rick, don't confuse the man! He asked about DeWalt vs Makita. Bosch is fine but stick with DeWalt, Bob. You won't regret it. And if you do, I'll eat my hat.

Thanks guys! I think I'll go with the DeWalt. Dave, I'll hold you to that hat eating if it sucks! 😂 Appreciate the input.
