Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new random orbital sander. I've narrowed it down to either the DeWalt DWE6423 or the Makita BO5041. I'm just a weekend warrior, mostly doing home projects and some furniture builds. Anybody have experience with either? Which one has better dust collection and ergonomics? Not looking to spend a fortune but want something that lasts. Thanks!

I've got the DeWalt DWE6423 and it's a solid unit for the price. Dust collection is decent with a shop vac attached, but the stock bag is pretty useless. Ergonomics are good, not too heavy. Haven't tried the Makita but I've heard good things. If you're on a budget, go DeWalt. If you want smoother operation, maybe Makita? But honestly, for weekend stuff, either will do. Just make sure you get good sanding discs.

I've used both extensively in my garage. The Makita BO5041 has a better motor and less vibration, which means less hand fatigue on long sanding sessions. The DeWalt is a bit more aggressive, which is good for stock removal but can leave swirl marks if you're not careful. Dust collection on the Makita is slightly better with the included bag, but both benefit from a vac. If you can swing the extra cash, Makita is worth it. But DeWalt ain't bad either. What kind of projects are you doing?

Thanks for the replies! Mostly sanding down old furniture and some plywood projects. I think I'll go with the DeWalt since it's a bit cheaper and I already have a DeWalt drill, so battery compatibility isn't an issue (though these are corded). Plus, I can use the savings on sandpaper. Appreciate the input!

Good call! Don't forget to get a variety pack of grits. And a sanding block for edges. Let us know how it works out. BTW, if you find the stock bag clogs too fast, just hook up a shop vac with a reducer. Game changer.
