Found a crazy deal on a random orbital sander - worth it?

Stumbled upon a sale at my local hardware store - they've got a Makita BO5041X for $99, usually $180! I'm a hobbyist, mostly woodworking on weekends. Is this sander any good? I've been using a cheap black+decker that vibrates my hands off after 10 mins. Should I grab it?

Will, that's a steal! I've used that exact model on a few renovation jobs. It's got a decent motor and the dust collection is pretty good. For $99, it's a no-brainer. Just make sure you check for any demo models or missing parts. If it's new in box, snag it before someone else does!

I've been running a BO5041X on my job sites for two years now, 5+ hours a day some weeks. It's a tank. The variable speed is handy. Make sure you change the pads regularly or they wear out. But for $99, you'd be crazy not to buy it. I paid $150 and thought I got a deal.

I'm still on my first sander, but I've heard good things about Makita. Quick question for the pros: how does it handle finishing vs heavy stock removal? I've got some old paint to strip, and I don't want to burn through the sandpaper too fast. Also, how's the vibration? My wrists are sensitive from typing all day lol.

Bob, it's a random orbital, so it's not gonna hog off material like a belt sander, but it'll handle paint stripping if you use a coarse grit like 60. Just go slow and keep it moving. As for vibration, it's got an electronic speed control that keeps the RPMs steady, so it's actually pretty smooth. For a DIYer, it's more than enough.
