Found a killer deal on a cordless orbital sander - too good to be true?

Hey all, was browsing the usual online spots and stumbled on what looks like a brand new Makita 18V LXT orbital sander for like 60% off retail. Seller says it's new in box, just an overstock situation. I've been wanting to upgrade from my corded one for furniture restoration work - less cord drag on delicate pieces. But this price has me suspicious... anyone have experience with this model or bought tools from deep discount sellers before?

SparkySam115 - I've used that exact sander on cabinet refinishing jobs. Solid tool, good dust collection with a vac attached. BUT at 60% off? Red flag for me. Check if it's actually the brushless model (model # should end in 'B'). Some sellers list the older brushed version cheap then claim 'new'. Also, verify it includes battery/charger - sometimes they strip kits. If it's legit, grab it. The cordless freedom is game-changing for restoration work.

lol i got burned on a 'deal' like that last year. turned out to be refurbished with a dying battery. ended up costing more to replace the batt than just buying new. but hey, if the seller has good reviews maybe? i'd ask for the serial number and check with makita if its still under warranty. weekend warrior tip: my corded bosch is still going strong after 5 yrs, sometimes simple is better!

SparkySam401 makes a good point about warranties. Makita's warranty is only valid if purchased from authorized dealers. If this seller isn't one, you'll have zero support if it fails mid-project. For restoration work where consistency matters, that's risky. Maybe share the seller name? I've seen some legit liquidators pop up occasionally. Also, what's your current sander? If it's decent, might not be worth the gamble.

Thanks guys. Seller has mixed feedback - some say 'great', others mention missing accessories. It's the XOB01Z (bare tool, no battery). My current is a corded DeWalt that works fine but the cord's annoying on detailed work. Think I'll pass based on the warranty issue alone. Can't risk it dying during a client's heirloom table restoration. Appreciate the reality check! Back to saving for an authorized purchase.
