Hey everyone, was browsing the local hardware store's clearance section and stumbled on a DeWalt 20V Max cordless orbital sander for $89. Normally it's like $150+. It's the DWE6423 model. I'm just a weekend warrior fixing up some old furniture and doing small projects around the house. Is this a steal or should I be worried about why it's so cheap? Box looks sealed but who knows. Thoughts?

Mike, that's actually not bad at all for that model. I've used it on a few renovation jobs - decent power, battery lasts a good while if you're not sanding entire floors. Check if it's a kit with battery/charger or just the tool only. At $89 tool-only it's okay, but if it includes a 5Ah battery that's a legit steal. Might be an older stock clearance. Just test it thoroughly when you get home - make sure the pad spins smoothly without wobble.

Hmm. The DWE6423 has a known issue with dust collection - the port clogs easily if you're doing fine finishing work. For furniture, that matters. Also check the orbit pattern: if it's not perfectly balanced, you'll get swirl marks on your projects. At that price, it's probably fine for rough work, but if precision matters, I'd save for a Mirka or Festool. Did you check the warranty sticker date?

Thanks guys! Bob - it's tool only, no battery. I've already got a couple DeWalt batteries so that works. Pete - good call on the dust port, I'll keep an eye on it. Mostly doing table tops and some cabinet doors, nothing super fine. Think I'm gonna grab it tomorrow if it's still there. Appreciate the input!

Solid choice Mike. For the price and your use case, you can't go wrong. Even if it dies in a year (which it probably won't), you got your money's worth. Pro tip: get some good quality sandpaper - makes a bigger difference than the tool sometimes. Let us know how it works out!
