Hey all, was browsing the local classifieds and stumbled on a Makita BO5041K random orbital sander for $40. Seller says it's lightly used, comes with the case and some extra pads. I've been wanting to upgrade from my cheapo one for a while, but this seems almost too cheap? Anyone have experience with this model? Worth jumping on?

Dude, $40 for a Makita ROS? That's insane if it's in decent shape. I've got the same model and it's been a workhorse for my furniture projects. Check if the pad spins smoothly and the dust collection port isn't cracked. Only thing I'd say is the stock pads wear out kinda fast, but aftermarket ones are cheap. If it runs, grab it before someone else does!

Used that model on job sites for years before I retired. Solid tool - good vibration control, decent dust pickup with a vac attached. At $40, you're risking very little. Ask the seller to plug it in and let you feel it run. Listen for bearing noise or wobble. If it's smooth, it's a steal. Even if you need to replace the pad or cord later, you're still way ahead.

Thanks for the quick replies! Larry, good call on checking the dust port - didn't think of that. Tim, I'll definitely test it under power. Seller says it's from a clean home workshop, so hoping for the best. Gonna message them now to set up a look. Will report back if I score it!
