Hey folks, was driving through my neighborhood this morning and spotted a garage sale. Saw a DeWalt DWE6423 orbital sander sitting there with a $45 price tag. Looks like it's in decent shape, maybe a couple years old. Owner said it works fine but he upgraded to a cordless model. Should I grab it? Seems like a steal compared to the $120+ new price.

Whoa Rick, that's a killer deal if it's legit! I've had that exact model for 3 years now and it's been a workhorse. Check if the pad is still flat and not warped - that's usually the first thing to go. Also plug it in if you can and listen for any weird noises. For $45, even if you need to replace the pad ($15-20), you're still way ahead.

Before you buy ANY used power tool, please inspect it thoroughly. Check the cord for fraying or cuts - huge safety hazard. Make sure the dust collection bag/port isn't clogged (fire risk). And wear safety glasses when testing it! That model should have a variable speed dial - test all settings. If anything feels off, walk away.

Nice find! I collect vintage sanders and that DeWalt is a solid mid-range model. Check the serial number - if it's from 2018 or later, parts are still easy to find. Ask if he has the original case or any extra sanding discs. Sometimes people throw those in. At that price, I'd buy it even as a backup to my collection.

Thanks everyone! Went back and tested it - runs smooth on all speeds. Cord looks good, pad is flat. No case or extras, but he threw in a half-pack of 120-grit discs. Bought it! Already used it to smooth out an old table I'm refinishing. Works like a charm. Appreciate the advice - this forum always comes through!
