Hey folks, having a weird issue with my DeWalt DWE6423 orbital sander. It keeps stalling randomly when I'm sanding some oak boards. Not overheating - just cuts out like it's losing power, then starts again if I release the trigger. Battery shows full charge. Anyone else run into this? Driving me nuts on this table project.

First off - great choice on the DeWalt! I've had my 6423 for 3 years and it's a beast. Sounds like it might be the battery contacts. Try cleaning the terminals on both the sander and battery with some electrical contact cleaner. DeWalt's XR batteries are solid, but dust gets everywhere. If that doesn't work, could be the trigger switch going bad - DeWalt's warranty is top notch though!

DeWaltDan's on the right track but let's be precise. What grit paper are you using? Oak's dense - if you're using anything below 80 grit with too much pressure, you might be overloading the motor. Also, check if the pad is perfectly flat. Even 0.5mm wobble can cause intermittent stalling. Measure the pad rotation with a dial indicator if you have one.

Before you do ANYTHING, unplug that battery! Stalling could indicate an electrical fault. Have you checked for visible damage to the power cord or housing? Saw a guy last month who kept using a sander with a cracked housing - nearly started a fire. DeWalt makes good tools but NO tool is worth risking safety. Consider taking it to an authorized service center.

Thanks all! Using 120 grit, not pressing too hard. Cleaned the contacts like DeWaltDan said - seemed dusty. Tried a different battery too. Still happening but less often. Rick's got me nervous though - might run it by the service center this weekend. Appreciate the help!
