Hey all, just a friendly reminder to wear a proper respirator when sanding MDF or any material with formaldehyde. I've been seeing too many guys skip it. That dust is nasty, and it's not worth the lung damage. Get a good P100 rated mask.

Good point, Felix. But those respirators cost a fortune. I usually just use a cheap paper mask when I'm doing quick jobs. You think that's enough?

Cheap paper masks are useless, Steve. You might as well wear nothing. Invest in a decent half-face respirator like the 3M one I use. It's not that expensive and the filters last long. Plus, I got a deal on it at my local hardware store.

Steve, Pete's right. Those paper masks don't seal. And if you're using a power sander, the dust gets everywhere. I had a buddy who ended up with asthma because of this stuff. Not worth it. Also, make sure you have good shop ventilation or use a dust extractor.

I always wear a respirator when sanding, even for small jobs. It's a habit. Also, I hook up my shop vac to my sander to capture dust at the source. That reduces the amount that gets in the air. But yeah, the mask is a must.
