Hey everyone, been sanding a lot of old paint off some trim and my lungs are killing me. I know I need a proper respirator but don't want to break the bank. What do you guys use? I'm thinking of just grabbing a cheap N95 from the hardware store.

Dude, don't cheap out on lung protection. An N95 is okay for dust but won't do squat for fumes or fine particles. I use a half-face respirator with P100 filters. It's like $30-40 and filters 99.97% of particles. Plus it seals better. Your lungs are worth more than a few bucks.

What Hank said. I got a 3M 6500 series. Comfortable, and the filters last a while. Only thing is it gets hot in summer. But better than breathing sawdust forever.

Good points. I guess I'll spring for the half-face. Any tips on cleaning or storage? I've heard they can get moldy if not dried properly.

Yeah, after use wipe it down and let it air dry. Store in a ziplock bag or a dry place. I hang mine on a pegboard. Also check the seals before each use. If it's cracked, replace it.
