Hey everyone, I'm planning to build a 12x16 deck this spring. I've got most of the materials lined up but need a good circular saw. I've been using a hand-me-down Skilsaw that's on its last legs. I'm looking for something reliable, maybe cordless since I hate dealing with cords. Budget is around $200. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Felix, for deck building I'd go with a 7-1/4 inch saw. Cordless is nice but make sure you get a high-voltage platform (like 60V or FlexVolt) for the torque you'll need cutting pressure-treated lumber. The DeWalt DCS578 is a beast but over your budget. Check out the Makita XSH03Z if you're on a tighter budget, it's a solid saw with good battery life.

I second the Makita. But honestly, for a deck, a worm drive style saw is king for stability. The Skilsaw SPT67WM-22 is a corded worm drive that'll cut anything and it's only $150. I know you said cordless but cords aren't that bad if you got a decent extension cord. Plus you don't have to worry about batteries dying mid-cut.

Felix, don't overlook the Metabo HPT C3607DB (or the corded version). They're lightweight and have a great depth adjustment. For a one-time deck build, even the Ryobi P508 will do the job if you're already in that battery system. Just make sure to use a fine-tooth blade for cleaner cuts on the deck boards.

Thanks guys! I think I'll look into the Makita XSH03Z and maybe get an extra battery. Appreciate the help!
