Hey everyone! Planning to build a 12x16 deck this summer. I have a circular saw but it's older and the blade wobbles. Should I buy a miter saw? A table saw? I'm on a budget but want clean cuts. What do you recommend?

For a deck, you don't need a table saw. A good miter saw will handle the 2x4s and 2x6s just fine. Look for a 10-inch sliding compound miter saw. You can get a decent one at Harbor Freight for under $200. Don't splurge on Dewalt if you're just doing one project.

Before you buy anything, make sure you have proper PPE – safety glasses, earplugs, and a dust mask. Also, a good blade is crucial. I'd suggest a Diablo blade for your circular saw if you can't afford a miter saw. But if you get a miter saw, check the blade guard works smoothly and the brake stops quickly.

I've built dozens of decks. A 10-inch sliding compound miter saw is the most versatile, but honestly, a circular saw with a straightedge guide can do everything. If you're budget-conscious, get a new circular saw – a Skilsaw worm drive – and a good speed square. That combo will last you through many projects.

Gotta disagree with Dave. A miter saw makes deck building a breeze. I use my DeWalt 12-inch sliding miter saw for everything. It's a beast. Yeah, it's pricey, but you'll never need another miter saw. Check Facebook Marketplace – I got mine for half price used. A good saw pays for itself.
