Hey guys, planning to build a 12x16 deck this spring. I currently have a cheap circular saw I got for $30 at a garage sale. It struggles with pressure-treated lumber. Should I buy a track saw or upgrade to a worm drive? Budget is around $200-300. Any recommendations?

If you're on a budget, skip the track saw. Get a corded worm drive like the Skilsaw 77. It'll last forever and cut PT lumber like butter. You can find used ones for under $150. Save the rest for a good blade.

I second the worm drive! But if you're gonna cut lots of angles and be on scaffolding, consider a cordless circular saw. No cord to trip over. The DeWalt 60V flexvolt is sweet but kinda pricey. Maybe check FB marketplace.

For a deck, a track saw is overkill unless you're also doing cabinets. Get a worm drive or a sidewinder. I'd recommend the Makita 5007MG – lightweight and powerful. Works great for decks. Also get a speed square and some clamps.

Don't forget a good blade! I use Diablo blades on my Skilsaw. Also, for long rip cuts you might want a circular saw with a guide rail, but you can make a DIY guide out of plywood. Save the track saw for finish work.
