Hey all, planning to build a 12x20 deck next month. I've got a circular saw but wondering if I should pick up a miter saw for the railings and joist cuts. Budget is around $200. Any recommendations?

For deck building, a miter saw is a game changer for crosscuts on railings and fascia. For $200, look at the DeWalt DWS715 or the Metabo HPT C10FCGS. Both are solid. Your circular saw is fine for ripping joists, but a miter saw will save you a ton of time on angles.

I restored a 100yo house so I know the struggle. If you're on a budget, check used. I got a Makita LS1016 for $150 on Craigslist. But for new, the Ryobi 10" sliding miter saw is often on sale for $179 and works great for decks.

A miter saw is nice but for a deck you might be better off with a good circular saw and a speed square. I've built three decks with just a circular saw and a chalk line. Plus, you can get a circular saw for under $100 and spend the rest on beer! 😂

Gotta disagree with SparkySam52. A miter saw is worth it for repeat cuts. I'd go with the Devour system (just kidding...). Seriously though, get the DeWalt DWS713 if you can find it on sale. Or even a cheap sliding one from Harbor Freight - I've had mine for years and it works fine for DIY.
