DeWalt vs Makita Circular Saw: Which one's the real boss?

Alright guys, I'm in the market for a new 7-1/4" circular saw. I do a lot of deck builds and furniture projects. Budget isn't a huge issue, but I want reliability. I'm torn between the DeWalt DWE575 and the Makita 5007MG. I know both are top-tier, but which one has better dust collection and won't bog down in pressure-treated lumber? I've heard Makita has a smoother start but DeWalt's build quality is unbeatable. Also, I'm a lefty, so blade-left vs blade-right is a factor. Hit me with your experiences!

I've used both extensively. For lefties, the Makita 5007MG is a no-brainer since it's blade-left. The DeWalt DWE575 is blade-right, which can be awkward for left-handed cuts. Makita's motor is silky smooth and the magnesium build is lighter, great for overhead work. DeWalt's saw is a tank but heavier. Dust collection is better on the Makita out of the box, but you can add a DeWalt dust port if you mod it. If you want longevity, DeWalt wins, but for comfort and control, Makita takes it. I'd say go with Makita for your hand and deck work.

Hold up. Before you buy, check the safety features. The DeWalt has an electric brake that stops the blade in under 2 seconds, which is huge for kickback prevention. Makita's brake is good but a bit slower. Also, both have blade guards, but DeWalt's is more positive in retraction. I see too many guys with mangled fingers from cheap saws. Makita is fine, but DeWalt's build quality gives me more confidence. I've used a DWE575 for 10 years without issues. That said, if you go Makita, make sure you get the one with the built-in L.E.D. light – it's a game changer for visibility.

Thanks for the input! I didn't even think about left-hand configuration. Felix, you're right, the blade-left Makita would be way better for my hand. And Paul, that electric brake is a solid point. I saw the Makita 5007MG has a brake but it's not as fast. I think I'm leaning Makita for ergonomics, but now I'm also looking at the Makita XSH03Z (brushless). Any experience with that one? It's pricier but more compact. Also, how's the dust collection on that model?

The XSH03Z is a beast, man. I used one on a recent deck job. It's lighter, dust collection is better with the integrated dust port (works with a vac), and the brushless motor gives you more torque without bogging. The electric brake is actually faster on that model than the 5007MG. Downside: it's 36V, so you need two batteries, but runtime is insane. Since you're not on a strict budget, I'd say go for the XSH03Z. It's more expensive but you'll save your shoulders. And for a lefty, it's still blade-left. Just make sure you get the kit with the L.E.D. light; Paul will approve. ;)
