Alright guys, I'm in the market for a new 7-1/4" circular saw. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWE575 and the Makita XSH03Z. I do a lot of restoration work, so I need something that can handle framing and some occasional trim work. Any thoughts on which has better build quality and longevity? I've heard mixed things about the DeWalt's motor and the Makita's blade guard. Help a brother out!

I've used both extensively in renos. The DeWalt is a beast for framing—lots of torque, but it's a bit heavy. The Makita feels lighter and smoother, especially for bevel cuts. If you're doing long days, the Makita might save your arm. But the DeWalt's dust blower is way better. I'd say if you're mostly rough framing, go DeWalt. If you need it for trim too, Makita.

I'm just a apprentice but I've used my boss's Makita and it's sweet. The blade brake stops fast, feels safe. He's had it for like 5 years with no issues. But I heard the DeWalt has a better warranty? Not sure. Also, check the price on batteries if you're going cordless—Makita's 5Ah batteries are pricier but last longer.

Accuracy is my thing. I tested both side-by-side. The Makita has a better base plate—flatter and less flex. The DeWalt's base warped on me after a few months. Also, the Makita's depth adjustment is more precise. But the DeWalt's bevel stops are more defined. Honestly, if you're doing fine cuts, Makita wins. For rough cuts, either is fine. Just check the arbor lock—the DeWalt's tends to strip if you're not careful.

Thanks everyone, great points. I think I'm leaning toward the Makita for the weight and precision, but I'll keep an eye on the battery cost. Appreciate the advice!
