Hey folks, weekend warrior here trying to decide between a DeWalt DWE575 and Makita 5007MGA for my upcoming deck rebuild. I've got some 2x6 pressure-treated lumber to cut. Budget's around $150-200. Anyone have experience with both? I want something reliable but don't need pro-level daily use. Also wondering about blade changes - are they both pretty straightforward?

Makita all the way, Tim! I've been using their tools for 15 years in my carpentry business. That 5007MGA has the best balance and power-to-weight ratio in its class. The magnesium construction makes it lighter than the DeWalt, which matters when you're making dozens of cuts. Plus Makita's electric brake stops the blade instantly when you release the trigger - safety first! Their batteries (if you go cordless later) last forever too. Once you go teal, you never go back!

Both solid choices, but specs tell the story. DeWalt DWE575: 15A motor, 5750 RPM, 7-1/4" blade, 53° bevel capacity. Makita 5007MGA: 15A motor, 5800 RPM, same blade size, 56° bevel. Makita's got slightly higher RPM and better bevel range. DeWalt's dust blower is more effective though - keeps your cut line visible. For treated lumber, consider blade quality more than the saw itself. I'd recommend getting either saw bare and investing in a Freud Diablo blade. Both will serve a weekend user well for years.

Thanks for the input! Mike - the weight thing is interesting since I'll be cutting overhead for the joists. Felix - didn't even think about the dust blower, good point. Anyone know about warranty differences? I see DeWalt offers 3 years, Makita 1 year but some say their service centers are better. Also, my local store has the DeWalt on sale for $159 right now...

Warranty schmarranty - my Makitas never break! Seriously though, in 15 years I've only needed service once when I dropped my drill from a ladder. Their repair center had it back in 3 days. The DeWalt sale is tempting, but remember: buy nice or buy twice! That extra $40 for the Makita gets you Japanese engineering and that sweet electric brake. My cousin bought a DeWalt last year and the blade guard already sticks sometimes. Just my 2 cents!
