Hey all, I'm planning to build a 20x20 deck next month and need to get a new 7 1/4 circular saw. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWE575 or the Makita 5007MG. I'm a weekend warrior, so it'll see occasional use. I've heard DeWalt is tough but Makita might be smoother. What do you guys think?

Carl, I've used both on job sites for years. Makita's 5007MG is a beast - smooth cut, light, and the depth adjust is buttery. DeWalt's DWE575 is solid too but a tad grittier. For a deck, either will work, but if you want precision, go Makita. Jus' my 2 cents.

I gotta chime in. DeWalt's DWE575 has the best dust blower I've seen - keeps your line clear. Plus the electric brake is faster. I'd say it's safer for a newbie. Makita's brake is slower. Don't underestimate that! Safety first man.

I'll add that the Makita has a magnesium shoe which is lighter and doesn't rust. If you're working outside, that matters. Also, if you plan to use a guide rail, Makita's base is more compatible with aftermarket stuff. Just my experience.

Thanks everyone! I'm kinda leaning Makita now for the smoothness and light weight. But Dan, that dust blower on the DeWalt sounds good. Tough call. I'll prbably go hold both at the store. Appreciate the help!
