Is this circular saw worth it? Found it for $80!

So I was browsing the clearance section at my local big box store and spotted a DeWalt 7-1/4" circular saw (DWE575) marked down to $80 from the regular $130. It's the 15-amp model with the brake. I've been looking to upgrade from my old corded craftsman and this seems like a steal. Anyone have experience with this one? Should I pull the trigger?

I've owned that exact saw for about 3 years. It's pretty solid, especially for the price. The electric brake is a nice feature, and it's got good power. It'll rip through 2x4s no problem. My only complaint is the blade guard can be a bit sticky, but a little lubricant fixes that. At $80, I'd say grab it. You won't find a better deal new.

Hold up, is it a real DeWalt or one of those 'made for clearance' models? Sometimes the big box stores get special low-end versions with worse bearings or cheaper gears. Check the model number and see if the reviews are decent. If it's the regular DWE575, that's a steal. But if it's a 'DW575' without the brake? I'd pass.

It's the DWE575, I double checked the box. And the brake did work on the floor model. I figured it was a good deal, but I'm worried about the 'too good to be true' factor. Hank, any issues with the motor or gears? I've had cheap saws smoke out on me.

Not with the gears, no. The motor is a beast. I've cut a ton of plywood and even some heavy hardwood without bogging down. Just keep the vents clean. I did have the switch go out once, but it was an easy replacement (like $15). Just make sure you use a good sharp blade. That'll make more of a difference than the saw.
