Hey guys, I was using my 12" sliding miter saw to cut some pressure-treated lumber that was still a bit damp. After a few cuts, the blade stopped spinning and now it's stuck. The motor hums but won't turn. Did I ruin it? This is a Dewalt DWS780, about 2 years old.

First thing, unplug it! If it's a brushed motor, the damp wood might have caused a short or corrosion. Check the brushes and the arbor area for any swelling. Also, inspect the blade for pitch buildup - wet wood can really gum things up. Try manually spinning the blade (with the saw off and disconnected) to see if it's bound. Let us know what you find.

I had a similar issue with a circular saw after cutting wet ply. Turned out the blade was pinched by the wood expanding. But you said it hums, so the motor's trying. Could be a seized bearing from moisture. Have you checked for rust on the arbor or the motor shaft? A little WD-40 might help free it up, but be careful.

Thanks guys. I unplugged it and tried to turn the blade by hand - it's stiff but moves a little. No rust visible. The arbor nut is tight but I loosened it and still same issue. It's not the blade binding on the wood because I removed the wood. Maybe I'll take the blade off and see if the motor spins free.
