Just picked up a DeWalt 7-1/4" worm drive saw at a pawn shop for $150. Looks barely used, came with a case and two Diablo blades. I know DeWalt is solid, but I've never owned a worm drive – is this a good buy? Any advice on using it?

Man, worm drives are beasts for ripping, but they're heavy af. That's a steal if it's in good shape. Check the arbor for any wobble and make sure the blade guard retracts smoothly. Precision-wise, you'll want to dial in the bevel and depth stops. If everything's true, you got a deal.

Nice score! I've restored a few of those. Flip it over and look at the gearbox – any oil leaks? The early models had issues with the seals. Also, pop the brushes out to check wear. If it's clean, $150 is a no-brainer. I'd run it through some rips on pine to see how she tracks.

Thanks guys. I'll check the arbor and gearbox tonight. Tim, I'm not too worried about weight, I'm used to heft. Will, I'll do the pine test. If it's all good, sounds like I got lucky. Appreciate the input!
